What is TaeKwon-do? It is an ancient form of unarmed combat practiced for many centuries in the orient. TaeKwon-Do became perfected in its present form in Korea. Translated from Korean Tae literally means to jump, kick or smash with the foot. kwon means a fist-chiefly to punch or destroy with the hand or fist. Do means the way of or art. TaeKwon-Do indicates the technique of unarmed combat for self defense that involves the skilled application of punches, kicks and blocks with the hands arms and feet resulting in the rapid destruction of an opponent. TaeKwon-Do is a way of life for many people it helps instill a concept and spirit of self-imposed discipline and an ideal of noble moral re-armament. In these days of violence and intimidation, which seems to plague our modern day society, TaeKwon-Do enables the weak to possess a fine weapon to defend himself or herself and defeat an aggressive opponent. When misused it can be a lethal combination. The main aim of any martial art or self-defense training is to help you become more aware. The best defense is prevention so you need to make sure you are always switched on, hopefully this will come naturally as your training progresses. You may learn to deliver a killer punch or technique that you may never use, but being aware of your situations and surroundings need to be with you every waking hour.

Taekwon-Do was founded in South Korea on April 11th 1955, by the founder Major General Choi Hong Hi 9th Degree Black Belt. It was introduced into the U.K. in 1967.
